We regret to share that recently the Little Red Schoolhouse Historical Museum experienced severe water damage due to a water heater burst in the basement, believed to have occurred sometime after the Museum closed Sunday night, September 17, 2017. Unfortunately, archived records, historic items and the majority of artifacts held by the Museum were impacted when the flowing water breached the storage rooms. The Scottsdale Historical Society Board of Directors is working with the City of Scottsdale to coordinate the clearing of the basement, temporary storage, restoration and replacement of the flooring. There is a great deal of concern about black mold so the City has deemed this incident an emergency and several Board members have been at the Museum round the clock to determine what is salvageable and prepare for proper relocation during the restoration.
